Connected Extra: The Esablishment of the Bishop's Commission

The Establishment of the Bishop's Commission

Archbishop Philip has today announced the establishment of the Bishop's Commission to consider options for Episcopal Leadership in the Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki. He indicated his intention to establish this Commission, at the Diocesan Synod this year and has now finalised the Terms of Reference and has appointed the Commissioners.

The Commission will be chaired by the Bishop of Waiapu, the Right Reverend Andrew Hedge. The Reverend Tric Malcolm, Chair of the Anglican Care Network and, until recently, City Missioner of the Wellington City Mission, and Mr Nick Young, Diocesan Manager for the Diocese of Wellington, are the other two members.

The Diocesan Manager, Mr Simon Cayley, will provide executive support for the Commission. Trust Management Ltd and the Chair of Finance and Audit will provide detailed financial information.

A special Synod will be convened on 27 April 2019, to consider the recommendations of the Commission. The report of the Commission will be available to members of Synod no later than 14 days prior to that Synod.

The Terms of Reference set out certain bodies which will be consulted with, namely the Standing Committee and the Bishop's Staff, but the Commissioners have the ability to consult more widely should that be helpful.

The Terms of Reference can be viewed here.
